Key Features

1. Structural Compatibility

Extra-Long Working Length: Standard colonoscopes typically have a total length of 1600mm–1700mm; therefore, LucentMed's colonoscope cleaning brushes are designed with a working length of 2600mm–2800mm.

The brush head can easily traverse the entire length of the long channel and emerge completely from the distal end, thereby eliminating any dead spots in the cleaning process.

Highly Flexible Core Wire: Colonoscopes feature multiple bending sections (with angulation capabilities exceeding 180° in upward, downward, left, and right directions).

The interior of the brush body utilizes a specially treated, ultra-fine stainless steel spring core wire. This core wire possesses exceptional fatigue resistance and flexibility, ensuring it does not fracture or undergo permanent deformation—even when repeatedly passing through sharp bends—thereby protecting the endoscope's expensive internal channel coating.

2. Cleaning Efficiency

Large-Diameter Brush Head: Designed to fit wide instrument channels ranging from 3.2mm to 3.8mm, the brush head typically expands to a diameter of 6.0mm–8.0mm.

This larger diameter generates greater lateral pressure, effectively scraping away dried fecal residue, mucus, and biofilms adhering to the channel walls.

High-Density, Abrasion-Resistant Bristles: We utilize medical-grade, high-elasticity nylon or PBT materials, featuring a high bristle density and tight arrangement.

This design not only removes loose debris but also physically disrupts stubborn biofilms—a task that chemical disinfectants alone cannot accomplish.

Anti-Shedding Locking Technology: Given the extreme length of colonoscope channels, a detached bristle would be extremely difficult to retrieve.

Thanks to our dual-locking manufacturing process, the bristles remain firmly anchored—never detaching even under strong pulling forces or while passing through bending sections—thereby completely eliminating the risk of foreign body retention.

3. User Experience

Ergonomic Large Handle: Due to the length of colonoscope channels and the resulting high resistance, LucentMed has designed the handle as a widened T-shape or a large three-ring grip, featuring a non-slip soft-grip coating.

This design ensures a secure grip for medical personnel—even when wearing gloves or with wet hands—facilitating effortless pulling and manipulation using both hands.

Color-Coding System: To distinguish them from gastroscopy brushes, colonoscopy cleaning brushes typically feature specific color coding (such as blue or red packaging/handles) to prevent the accidental use of brushes with incompatible specifications.

4. Infection Control and Safety

Sterile, Individual Packaging: Given that the intestinal tract harbors a significant number of pathogenic bacteria, the prevailing industry standard—which our products also adhere to—is the use of single-use colonoscopy brushes sterilized with ethylene oxide.

Single-Use Design: This approach effectively breaks the chain of cross-infection caused by inadequate brush cleaning, thereby meeting the highest standards for infection control.

Key Notes

Applicable Channel Diameter

≥ 3.2 mm or ≥ 3.7 mm

The instrument channels of most therapeutic colonoscopes range from 3.2 mm to 3.8 mm.

It is strictly prohibited to use brushes designed solely for 2.8 mm gastroscopes, as this will result in insufficient cleaning efficacy; likewise, do not attempt to force an excessively thick brush through the channel, as this risks it becoming jammed.

Working Length

2600 mm – 2800 mm

The total length of a colonoscope typically ranges from approximately 1,600 mm to 1,700 mm; however, to account for operational clearance and the requirement for complete protrusion, the cleaning brush usually needs to be at least 2,600 mm long, ensuring that the brush head can easily extend fully out of the opposite end.

Brush Head Diameter

Φ 6.0 mm – Φ 8.0 mm

The larger brush head diameter provides sufficient lateral pressure to effectively remove fecal residue and mucous biofilms adhering to the inner walls of the long channel within the colonoscope.

Core Wire Flexibility

Ultra-High Flexibility Stainless Steel Wire

The colonoscope features numerous bends with large angles (potentially exceeding 180°); consequently, the core wire must possess exceptional fatigue resistance and flexibility to prevent fracture during repeated passage through these curved sections.

Handle Design

Extended Anti-Slip Ring / Large T-Handle

Due to the considerable length of the colonoscope tube and the resulting high resistance during insertion and withdrawal, the handle design must be optimized for reduced physical strain; therefore, a three-ring or wide-body T-shaped configuration is adopted to facilitate the coordinated application of force using both hands.

Material

Bristles: High-Elasticity Nylon / PBT

Handle: Medical-Grade ABS / PP

Disposable products must ensure that the bristles do not detach after a single instance of high-intensity use; reusable products must withstand high-temperature and high-pressure sterilization.

Note: The instrument channels of certain ultra-slim colonoscopes or pediatric colonoscopes may measure 2.8 mm. Prior to product selection, please be sure to verify the specific specifications in the endoscope's instruction manual, or contact LucentMed for consultation.

Key Application Scenarios

The application of colonoscope cleaning brushes spans the entire process of colonoscope reprocessing. LucentMed primarily supplies this product for the following application scenarios:

1. Routine Cleaning in Endoscopy Centers: Removal of fecal matter and mucus; thorough cleaning of the entire length of the instrument channel.

2. Deep Cleaning of Complex Structures: Cleaning of the inner curvature of the bending section; deep scrubbing of the elevator mechanism area.

3. Handling of Special Infection Cases: Cleaning following procedures involving multi-drug resistant organisms; cleaning of colonoscopes used in infectious disease screening.

4. Auxiliary Support for Automated Washers: Performing mandatory manual scrubbing steps.

5. Education and Quality Control Demonstrations: Training and instructional demonstrations.

How to Properly Use an Colonoscope Cleaning Brush?

The primary challenges in cleaning endoscopes lie in removing fecal residue and biofilms that accumulate within the long internal channels. LucentMed provides a comprehensive set of operating procedures with every product; please refer to these guidelines for the complete workflow.

1. Bedside Pre-cleaning

Immediately after withdrawing the endoscope from the patient, use an enzymatic gauze pad to wipe away any visible fecal matter and mucus from the exterior surface.

Next, immerse the distal tip of the endoscope into an enzymatic cleaning solution. Activate the suction mechanism to draw the enzymatic solution through the internal channels, thereby softening any dried or impacted fecal matter.

Insert the cleaning brush into the channel; while simultaneously infusing the enzymatic solution, rapidly move the brush back and forth at least 3 to 5 times.

Due to the considerable length of the endoscope, it is recommended that this step be performed by two individuals working in tandem: one to stabilize the endoscope shaft, and the other to manipulate the cleaning brush.

2. Leak Testing

Prior to immersing the endoscope in the cleaning basin for soaking, a leak test must be performed.

If a leak is detected, under no circumstances should the device be brushed or scrubbed; instead, it must be sent for immediate repair to prevent liquid ingress into the internal components, which could damage the optical system.

3. Immersed Brushing

Completely submerge the endoscope in a multi-enzymatic cleaning solution. Insert the cleaning brush into the channel; once the brush head is observed to fully emerge from the biopsy port, pull it back. Repeat this insertion and retraction motion at least 10 times.

During the brushing process, appropriately adjust the endoscope's angulation knobs to ensure the brush bristles make contact with and clean the inner walls of the curved sections.

Repeatedly open and close the elevator mechanism, and use a small brush or a specialized cleaning brush to thoroughly clean the crevices located beneath the elevator.

4. Thorough Rinsing and Drying

Use high-pressure purified or filtered water to flush the internal channels, thereby washing away all dislodged debris and contaminants.

Utilize a compressed air gun to blow-dry the internal channels and remove any residual moisture, which helps prevent bacterial proliferation.

5. Waste Disposal

Our cleaning brushes are single-use, disposable products. Upon completion of use, please discard them directly into a designated yellow medical waste container.
