Cervical Sampling Brush

LucentMed is a professional manufacturer and supplier of cervical sampling brushes. Our products feature a broom-style brush head designed to collect cells from the entire target area of the cervix; they are easy to use and offer cell capture and release rates exceeding 95%. Please contact us to request samples or discuss customization options.

LucentMed is an original manufacturer of single-use cervical sampling brushes. By strictly employing three core technologies—an anatomically designed broom-shaped brush head, high-density flocking, and soft, medical-grade materials—the product achieves a cell yield of 1.4 million or more per sample without causing significant patient discomfort.

Working Principle

The Cervical Sampling Brush features a flexible bristle design. During sampling, the brush head is gently placed against the external cervical os and rotated several times in the prescribed direction, ensuring full contact with the external os and the cervical canal to collect exfoliated epithelial cells.

Depending on the specific testing method, the collected samples are processed in different ways:

Pap Smear: Cells are evenly smeared onto a microscope slide for fixation and staining.

TCT/LBC: The brush head is placed into a cell preservation solution to release the cells, after which the sample is sent to the laboratory for processing.

HPV Testing: The collected sample is stored in a specialized preservation solution for molecular biological testing.

Cervical Sampling Brush

How to Use the Cervical Sampling Brush for Sample Collection?

● Additional supplies required

1. Disposable vaginal speculum: Used to dilate the vagina and expose the cervix.

2. Medical examination gloves: Sterile or clean, selected according to procedural protocols.

3. Sterile cotton balls/swabs + long curved forceps: Used to wipe away excess secretions from the cervical surface prior to sampling.

4. Disposable underpad/drape: To protect the examination table and the patient's privacy.

● Sampling procedure

1. Alignment and insertion: Remove the Cervical Sampling Brush from its sterile packaging. Align the longer central bristles with the endocervical canal and insert them into it, allowing the shorter peripheral bristles to lie flat against the external cervical os.

2. Rotation with controlled pressure: Apply moderate axial pressure toward the cervix, causing the peripheral bristles to fan out slightly and conform to the cervical curvature. Rotate the brush steadily in a clockwise direction for 3 to 5 full turns.

3. Vertical withdrawal: Upon completing the rotation, withdraw the sampling brush vertically, maintaining its axial alignment. Avoid contact with the vaginal walls to prevent sample contamination.

Structure and Materials

1. Product Structure

● Brush Head: The brush head of the Cervical Sampling Brush is broom-like; long central bristles extend into the cervical canal, while shorter peripheral bristles are arranged in an umbrella or conical shape to conform to the external cervical os and the squamocolumnar junction (transformation zone).

● Handle: A slender rod featuring a non-slip texture or finger grooves to facilitate one-handed rotation.

● Breakpoint (Optional): Allows the brush head to be detached from the handle or snapped directly into the preservation fluid vial after sampling.

2. Material Characteristics

● Handle: Medical-grade polypropylene (PP), compliant with USP Class VI biosafety standards.

● Bristles: Medical-grade nylon filaments; in premium models, the central core consists of stainless steel wire wrapped with nylon filament.

● Latex-free, non-cytotoxic, and non-sensitizing; compliant with GB/T 16886 / ISO 10993 biocompatibility evaluation requirements.

FAQ

Q1: Why is it important to rotate the brush 3–5 times clockwise during sampling?

A: This maximizes cell yield while preserving cellular integrity. Rotating in a single clockwise direction ensures the bristles continuously collect fresh epithelial cells.

Q2: What should be done if cells do not fully detach from the cervical sampling brush?

A: During processing, fully submerge the brush head in the preservation solution and rinse it vigorously against the bottom of the vial 10–15 times, utilizing the fluid's impact to dislodge the cells.

Q3: Will the sampling brush introduce bacteria or viruses into deeper tissue?

A: No, that is a misconception. The broom-style cervical brush is a sterile, single-use product sterilized with ethylene oxide (EO) at the factory; do not use if the packaging is damaged.

Q4: How can I quickly distinguish between high-quality and low-quality sampling brushes when purchasing?

A: Inspect the bristles: Hold them against the light; high-quality bristles are neatly aligned at the base and do not shed, whereas low-quality ones often have burrs or loose fibers.

Test elasticity: Pinch and rotate the bristles with your fingers; high-quality brushes have good resilience and do not easily lose their shape or splay out.

Test release capability: Dip the bristles in water and shake them; high-quality brushes do not retain water droplets, facilitating easy cell release.
